Tenor saxophonist, Doug Lawrence grew up in Albuquerque where he got his start in the music business playing in the band of his father, Tilden Lawrence. He has since performed on six continents at every major jazz club, concert hall and festival in the world, has recorded on over 100 albums and has performed with Benny Goodman, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Rosemary Clooney, and George Benson, to name a few. On the road most of the year as lead tenor saxophonist of the World Famous Count Basie Orchestra— a chair that he has held since 1993— Lawrence recently returned to live once again in Albuquerque. Honored in 2009 as an NEA Jazz Master, legendary jazz drummer, Jimmy Cobb is the elder statesman of all of the incredible Miles Davis bands and recordings: Kind of Blue (the most popular jazz recording in history) as well as on Sketches of Spain, Live at Carnegie Hall, Live at the Blackhawk, Porgy and Bess, and many other watershed Davis recordings. Known from an early age as a great accompanist, before joining Miles in 1957 Cobb played extensively with Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, and Cannonball Adderly. Also featured in the quartet is pianist, Llew Matthews who has been musical director for Nancy Wilson for many years; plus Julian Smith, bass.
