One of the most popular contemporary violinists in modern music, Regina Carter has, over the past seven years, brought audiences to their feet with exhilarating performances worldwide. Boasting influences that range from R&B to East Indian, to classical, Carter has a diverse musical personality which has allowed her to perform and record with a wide range of artists, including jazz luminaries Ray Brown, Marian McPartland, Wynton Marsalis, Randy Weston, Cassandra Wilson, and Pop icons like Dolly Parton and Billy Joel. Her impressive discography includes recordings with Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Danilo Perez, and several others and in 2006, she won the highly esteemed MacArthur Fellowship for her extraordinary originality and dedication to her creative pursuits. Her latest release, Reverse Thread, features hypnotically beautiful African folk melodies captured through a lens of contemporary interpretation that blends the exquisite sonorities of her violin with the kora (West African harp) and accordion, as well as guitar, bass and percussion.
